What to expect

Since this is a developer-focused event, expect a lot of software discussion. Sure, there’s a decent chance of some new hardware slipping in, but don’t get your hopes up too high.

Weeks ago, there was a lot of discussion about the possibility of a new Apple TV with a full-fledged SDK, but the New York Times seems certain that’s being shelved for the time being.

Rumor has it that iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 are going to be relatively small updates in terms of user-facing features. Security, stability, and performance are supposedly the focus this time around, and that’s perfectly fine with me. And if you’re running an older device, this update might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for.

The Apple Watch is still Apple’s newest product, so it’s safe to assume it will receive a fair bit of attention at today’s event. Expect new APIs, better performance, and at least one feel-good video about how the Apple Watch is changing the world in some trivial way.

Apple’s music streaming machinations seem to be getting a lot of play in the rumor mill as well, but I’m unsure how any sort of Beats rebranding would fit at a developer event. Maybe Dr. Dre has something to say.

If you want to watch the live video feed, you can head over to Apple’s site with Safari. We’ll do our best to embed a live video on the page as well, but Apple’s streaming solution is notoriously wonky at times. Regardless, you’ll be able to follow along with the text and pictures wherever you are.
